Our climate change strategy
We’ve been making progress on delivering our Climate Change Strategy and Delivery Plan. This work outlines what we’re doing to achieve our goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2038 in line with Greater Manchester’s vision.
Some of the key activities that we’ve achieved include:
Improving our property energy-performance information to help us prioritise investing in improving the worst-performing properties.
Reducing the number of properties rated D or below on Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) to 5,250 through heating, windows, and insulation upgrades.
Progressing our Housing Retrofit programme following our successful bid to receive £2.4m from the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund. The programme will improve the performance of our properties and reduce their emissions.
Training our engineers on how to install and maintain renewable low carbon technologies such as heat pumps and solar panels.
Evaluating our communal heating schemes to make them more efficient, controllable, and affordable for customers while reducing emissions. We’ve secured technical support from the Government’s Heat Network Efficiency Scheme to help us with this.
Supporting over 30 community projects focused on food growing, biodiversity, tree planting and habitat creation, and over 800 customers to take part in environmental education and awareness events.
Over the next five years, our key focus will be bringing our homes up to a minimum energy performance rating of band C. We’ll prioritise introducing heat meters in our communal schemes to make sure our homes are warm, comfortable, and with lower running costs and emissions.
