Addressing homelessness
Our Homefinder Services have continued to support people applying for homes, with many residents facing significant challenges due to a national shortage of affordable homes being available.
Despite challenges, we’ve made good progress in helping our customers find suitable homes. Many have had urgent housing needs.
Meeting the challenges
Most of our homes are allocated through the Homes for Bolton choice-based lettings system or other similar letting systems for homes located in other boroughs.
In 2023/24 we rehoused 325 households with high priority need and considered homeless, for example, those living in some form of temporary accommodation, ‘sofa surfing’, or about to become homeless due to having their tenancy ended by another landlord.
Partnerships in action
Through our continued partnership work with Bolton Council, Backup, Benjamin Court, Fortalice, Urban Outreach, Greater Manchester Police, Achieve, the NHS, and other professional agencies, we’ve helped many households move into long-term settled accommodation with us. Our dedicated Tenancy Support Service or services such as the Brighter Outcomes Teams have also provided them with the appropriate support they need.
Despite ongoing challenges, we’re confident that we’ll continue to make further progress in reducing housing pressures in Bolton, helped by the development of more new homes and creating independent, sustainable communities.
If you know of anyone who may be at risk of homelessness, or needs housing advice please speak with Bolton Council’s Housing Options in the first instance on 01204 335900.
